Power Bank

Knowledge is Power

Technology accessories have been a category of steady growth in the promotional products industry over the past few years and that growth is expected to continue as we become more and more connected through our electronic and mobile devices. Consumers want to be connected wherever they go, whether it is a quick trip to the supermarket or an extended trip for business or pleasure. With that being said, it’s no surprise portable power has become so desirable.

Power banks are still a fairly new item, so for those of you who are unfamiliar with what they do, they are portable charging devices. They store power and are able to give your device a boost no matter where you are. Like custom USB flash drives, some power banks may look exactly the same with the only difference being the capacity within the device. The capacity of a custom power bank is measured by ampere-hour (milli-amps per hour or mAh). The mAh of the charger tells you how much power is able to be stored in the bank for future use on your device.

Why Try Power Banks

We have said it already, but we’ll say it again and again throughout the year; tech is hot right now. If you’re looking for a custom gift or giveaway that people are going to be attracted to and want to keep, tech accessories, specifically phone and tablet accessories are a great way to go. Power banks specifically have a lot of potential when it comes to making an impact on your brand. Power banks of all sizes are compatible with many popular mobile devices and tablets. They also take care of a common problem; a phone with a battery life that doesn’t last as long as our busy days. If your audience is always on the go, works long hours or often works on the road a power bank is a perfect solution. They are also great to keep around for emergencies, trips and other “just in case” moments.

Picking the Right Power Bank

Once you have decided that a custom power bank is the right choice for your promotion, the next step is picking which one! Power banks come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but the two most important factors to consider when picking out a power bank are price and capacity. How much are you looking to spend on each power bank and how many mAh’s does it need to be to meet your needs?

If you refer back to the chart above, you will see that a 2,000 mAh power bank is big enough to give almost any smartphone a significant boost in power. If you are looking to invest in power banks that are more suitable for tablets, you will want to find a power bank with a higher charging capacity such as an 8,000 mAh power bank.

If you are looking to use a power bank for a giveaway, and you plan to give them away in large batches, a lower capacity power bank would be sufficient.  If you are looking to use a power bank as a gift in smaller quantities than a giveaway, a larger capacity power bank is a nicer choice.

  1. The best promo items are the ones that people will actually use. This definitely fits into that category. However, the promo item should make sense for your brand too.

We completely agree! You should always consider what is right for your brand first. Thanks, Jeff.

  3. Great article. I would like to add one point that you must have a basic idea of what devices your recipients will use. or you are wasting money.

One of our clients ordered 1000 pcs 2600mAh power bank from us, which is okay, as that is also the most popular branded power bank from us. And the output is 5V/1A by default. It turned out that most of their clients use Samsung Galaxy S5 that require a 5V/2A input when charging. So that is a lesson to learn!
